First Lady: Mary Louise Harper

Mother Mary Louise Harper, First Lady of Christ Community Temple and First Lady of Eastern Missouri First Jurisdiction, she is the wife of Bishop Dr. William L. Harper and the mother of six children, four beautiful daughters and two handsome sons.  She is also the grandmother of 9 grandchildren, 4 boys and 5 lovely princesses and one beautiful great granddaughter.  She was a graduate of Sumner High School during a time when African American students felt an obligation to their race to be better than average in accomplishments.  Mary Louise started her college career at Washington University majoring in Business Administration and Communications.  She later continued her curriculum at St. Louis University.
A day or a week in the life of Mother Harper is one that is fully packed.  She is
director of the Women’s Ministries at Christ Community Temple, “A Ministry and a Place for All People”.  She is continually planning and coordinating with her staff of department leaders fresh and innovative programs for the entire church family.
In June 1999, Mother Harper retired from her secular job with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company to become a homemaker and full time helper to her husband in the ministry.  Retirement holds a promise of new venture and new freedom for many people.  Mary Louise says there are often fears connected with leaving the job, so we make infallible plans for the future.  However, we must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God.  God’s will and purpose must be perfected in our lives. Surviving a stroke in May 2002 her testimony continues to be: Is there anything to hard for God?  NO!
This is indeed a summary to her efforts:  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.  I Corinthians
